My story

Recovery changed my life. Not just physically. Emotionally, mentally, professionally.

I'm Vanessa Rubiera, the founder of Ruby Pathways. This is why it exists.

A person resting at the end of a jetty over still water

I became the patient

Then a motor vehicle accident changed everything.

My career was built on supporting people through health, disability, aged care and community services.

After the accident I had to navigate the same healthcare system I knew well, plus an insurance process I'd never faced before. I felt overwhelmed. I felt unheard.

What it felt like

I know what it's like to carry an invisible load.

I know what it's like to walk into an appointment and forget the questions you spent days preparing. I know what it's like to feel overwhelmed by paperwork, insurance, referrals and uncertainty. I know what it's like to feel unseen while carrying an invisible load.

Ruby Pathways wasn't created because I had all the answers. It was created because I knew what it felt like not to have them. I wanted to build the companion I wish someone had given me.

What guides us

Practical tools. Trusted guidance. Real understanding.

Compassionate

Support that meets you where you are.

Practical

Tools that bring order to overwhelm.

Empowering

Helping you find your voice again.

Our philosophy

We believe the person living with the injury is the expert in their own experience.

Our role isn't to tell you what your recovery should look like. Our role is to create practical companions that help you organise, prepare and advocate with confidence. Because no one should have to navigate recovery alone.

Why the lotus

It grows through muddy water before reaching the light.

Recovery often feels the same. Not because life suddenly becomes easy, but because every day we choose to keep moving forward.

The lotus reminds us that growth is still possible, even in difficult seasons. That quiet strength matters. That hope is never wasted.

A small wave rolling in under a pastel sky

A promise

“Because while we cannot remove the mud from your path, we can walk beside you until you find your way through it.”
